I decided to try grammarly, and honestly, it was worth it for me for several reasons.
It catches small errors i might miss, suggests better word choices, and even helps with the overall. I have used grammarly throughout uni and it has been totally fine and i haven't been penalised for it! Using it as a spelling/grammar checker shouldn't count though. I think grammarly has some ai writing tools (like actually write for you) would probably count as ai use.
Using the ribbon in word was super convenient, and having the panel docked to the right of the document that scrolls. Usually, 10% of your uni mark will. All grammarly does is assist/guide, i.e., help make it less wordy, which is unacceptable in academic. In the age of ai and ai catchers, grad students like me are wary of online tools.
Think of it as a spell checker.
